7 Ways to make your Carpet Last for You

It can be very bad to have dirty carpets. When your carpet looks dirty and worn, it will make the room look bad. For this reason, you should hire a pro to clean your carpet. What are factors you should consider when looking for a carpet cleaner? The following advice will show you what to look for.

1. Vacuum

Always vacuum any carpet before cleaning it. Make use of a good vacuum cleaner in order to eradicate lose dirt prior to applying cleaning solvents or water. You will not get good results if you apply cleaning products on a carpet full of lose dirt. Ask your technician if he will be vacuuming prior to carpet cleaning; if not, make sure you vacuum 30 minutes before he arrives.

2. Know your Carpet Warranty

A company may offer a certain type of stain protection for your carpet, but make sure you read your carpet’s warranty first. If your carpet was pre-treated by the company that made the carpet and you place another treatment over it, it could make your warranty null and void. The chemicals may not be compatible and it can end up costing you a bundle.

3. Research your Carpet Cleaner

Just because a professional uses a well-known product doesn’t mean they are reputable. You need to do some research to make sure they are properly certified. Double check on your own, but also just ask them about their certifications to see what they say.

4. Learn from your Cleaner

Once you’ve had your carpets cleaned, ask the carpet cleaning company for pointers on taking care of your carpets afterward. Most professionals can guide you toward the best stain removers, how long carpets should dry, and a vacuuming schedule. The advice they give you can help keep your carpet looking great for a long time after the cleaning.

5. Explore Cheaper Options

Just using vinegar and warm water makes an excellent carpet cleaning solution. This is much cheaper than cleaning products if you still want good results. The professional should mix an equal amount of vinegar and warm water together. Then, they should pour the mixture over your carpet, scrubbing it with a sponge. All you need to do is take care of surface dirt by vacuuming.

6. Check for Licensed Carpet Cleaners

Carpet cleaners should be licensed by the IICRC. This certification is globally recognized as the gold standard for carpet cleaners. It is particularly important to contract a cleaner who’s certified when your carpet is under warranty. If there is no certification, the manufacturer may void the warranty on your carpet.

7. Treating a Stain

Red wine that gets spilled on a carpet may leave behind a bad stain. Treating a stain as soon as possible can make it easier to clean. First, place white wine on the red wine to dilute it. Cold water and a cloth that’s absorbent can be used to blot this liquid off of your carpet. Sprinkle salt over the stain, and allow it to absorb the wine for 10 to 15 minutes before vacuuming.

You now have a good understanding of how to go about hiring a carpet cleaning service. It couldn’t be simpler if you just apply the tips found in this article. The right cleaning service can turn back time to restore your carpet. That makes your home look wonderful as well!

What to do in Between Carpet Cleaning Appointments

So you’ve decided to get let professional carpet cleaners clean your carpets for you, that’s a great choice. If you haven’t made up your mind yet, this will give you reasons to let professional cleaners service your carpet. Carpet cleaning is a real daunting task, but with their help, the load is lighter.

Vacuum carpet cleaning

Vacuum carpet cleaning

After each carpet cleaning appointment, the cleaner will give you tips on how to maintain your carpets pending the next cleaning appointment. If they don’t, well you have come to the right place. Carpets don’t always stay clean especially when they’re in use, that’s why constant attention is needed to maintain its appearance. There are things you should do and others you should avoid between appointments. They include:

Vacuum Regularly

This seems like the obvious chore, doesn’t it? But it’s sad to say that a lot of people are comfortable not vacuuming their carpets. Vacuuming regularly at least once a day will not just keep your carpet clean and pretty, it will extend the life of your carpet. This simple yet seemingly boring task removes loose dirt from your carpets so they don’t go deep into the fibers of your carpet and turn it gray. Wear and tear will also be reduced to a smaller rate.

Attend to Stains Quickly

As soon as they occur you will want to blot them out immediately. Special emphasis on blot. That’s right, blot, don’t Scrub. Scrubbing makes the stain worse by spreading it and pushing it deeper into the fabrics if your carpet. Instead, blot the stains out carefully. It may look like you have to blot quickly so the stain doesn’t fall deep into the fibers, but at this point, rushing over it may yield unpleasant results. The key is to be as efficient at it as possible. When blotting use clean water and towels. You may have to teach your kids how to do this in your absence. We know kids love to play and experiment a lot.

Attend to Spills Immediately

It’s probably second nature to you to mop spills as with floors, but with carpets, you have to try a different approach. Mopping is kind of like rubbing and spreading the spill to the surrounding fabrics. Blot the spill instead like you would do stains. You have to do this quickly. A slight hesitation on your part may give rise to bad smell. When your carpet starts giving off these smells, you’ll be embarrassed to invite anyone or host a guest in your home. Be quick in your approach. Remember, ‘a stitch in time saves nine’. Whatever you do try it to mix harsh chemicals together to deal with spills and stains, they could be harmful to your carpet. Contact your carpet cleaner instead.

Don’t Wear Shoes on Your Carpet

If possible, you can prohibit the use of shoes on your carpet. Carpet cleaning is a daunting and time wasting task – your guests will understand. Moreover, wear and tear will be reduced to a significant degree consequently extending the lifespan of your carpet.

Power Washing promises a lot of benefits, some of them, long-term benefits, others short-term benefits. Power washing also has aesthetic, health and economic benefits. Read on to find out how.

1.     Improves the Appearance of your Home

As a result of being exposed to the elements, the walls of your home and every other surface exposed to harsh weather conditions will lose their appeal. Surfaces that once glowed are dulled by the build-up of dust, algae, fungi, and grime. The forceful jets of water will remove accumulation to expose the true beauty and appearance of your home – beauty that was all this time buried.

2.     Keeps you and your family safe from infections

There is no doubt the myriad of disease-causing organism currently ‘playing guest’ on the surfaces of your home. Being out in the open has left your walls ideal breeding grounds for fungi, mildew and other pathogens. Once in a while a family member may brush their skin on the wall, touch the walls or do anything that makes them have contact with the walls – it’s unavoidable. Your kids are the most prone to making contact with these surfaces and this will lead to infections. Power washing will remove the bulk of these pathogens thereby reducing the risk of future infections.

3.     Save you the Hassle

Manually washing your walls take a lot of time, not to mention having to climb ladders every time. There are crevices you may not reach and the result of the exercise may not be satisfactory. However, pressure washing will save you this stress, produce meaningful, satisfactory results and free up time for you to do more important things.

4.     Increases the Value of Your Home

If you’re planning to sell your house, power washing is an awesome idea. Honestly, let’s face it, are you going to buy a house whose exterior appearance is nothing to write home about? Power washing as we earlier discussed will enhance the appearance of your home, making it appealing to prospective buyers and raises its value beyond what it would have been.

5.     Saves Money

Some of the earlier mentioned benefits yields this reward. When your home is free from disease pathogens, you will save up on medical expenses which would have resulted from infections. Power washing your home just once will keep you from spending money if you had to manually wash your house yourself frequently.

Oh, the joy that comes with relaxing in a clean and beautiful home after a long hard day. The feeling is just euphoric. We carpet owners know just how much of eyesore carpets get when they are left unattended.Sure regular vacuuming keeps your carpet clean, but the effect doesn’t come close to those you get when you have it washed by professionals – with all their carpet cleaning contraptions. Not totally convinced professionals should clean your carpets? Here are more reasons:

It Improves the Lifespan of Your Carpet

You see, with periodic cleaning and care from professionals like ourselves, your carpet will stand the test of time. We use only the best and recommended cleaning agents for your carpets.

It’s Healthy

When professionals do a thorough job of washing your carpets, disease-causing germs, dust, pollen, pollutants, and other contaminants are stripped off your carpet. Clean carpets improve the quality of air in your home, making it easier on your lungs and your body system in general. Vacuuming your carpet doesn’t get rid of these pollutants, it just stirs them up into the air that you breathe.

Your Guest Are More Comfortable in Your Home

Have you ever been in a house where every surface is dirty and coated with dust? If you have, I bet you weren’t comfortable being in such a house and it was a huge relief to leave. Carpets with color patterns dulled out by dust are just as bad. Doubt this? Try inviting some friends over and watch their body language, they won’t relax or feel at home. But this is not an experiment you want to risk, they might politely refuse to come next time even if your home and carpet are in perfect condition. Let carpet cleaning professionals do the cleaning and you won’t have to worry about this, ever.

Saves You From the Hassle Involved

Cleaning carpet on your own requires time – like a lot of it -, energy and stress. Have you ever tried washing your rug carpet on your own? It’s a real daunting task and for the less determined, a near-impossible task. We’re not saying it’s impossible, not at all. It’s a difficult task, especially without the right types of equipment. And without the right equipment, you won’t have the desired results. Hiring professionals will free you an enormous amount of time and save you all the hassle involved with washing a carpet. Moreover, it’ll be time.

Learn Simple Ways to get rid of Tough Stains easily

Tough stains can be a real headache. And if you knew what to do to get rid of them, you will do that. That being said, let’s teach you some of the best ways to get rid of these tough stains easily. These fail-proof home cleaning tips can help you deal with them.

Getting Rid of Tough Stains

Gum

Sometimes kids put gum on furniture. Sometimes adults accidentally lose control of their mouth and gum falls out. Sometimes gum can fall out of a trash can and get pressed into furniture or flooring. Next time gum shows up somewhere it doesn’t belong, try these methods:

  • Ensure the gum is dried and hardened by using a can of compressed air or ice or an ice pack (be sure to keep moisture from ice away from the gum). Take a dull scraper to scrape up and lift off the gum. This can work on carpets as well, just be extra careful to avoid damage to the carpet fibers. Vacuum the area and wash with warm soapy water.
  • Apply extra strength duct tape to the gum and quickly lift the tape, repeat until the gum is removed.
  • Using a microfiber cloth, apply a product like Goo-Gone. Use circular motions and pressure to loosen the gum.

Lipstick

Lipstick from a napkin, a glass tipping onto the carpet, or simply falling asleep on your sofa before removing your makeup can leave embarrassing red marks. Follow these tips to restore your carpet or furniture to its pre-kissed glory.

  • If the lipstick has not dried, apply toothpaste to the area to help remove the stain.
  • If the lipstick has dried, use a plastic knife or a scraper to remove as much as possible.
  • Soak a cloth in ammonia and gently blot at the stain. Remove ammonia from the surface with a clean cloth which has been soaked in water.
  • Spray hairspray onto the stain, let sit for roughly 5 minutes and wipe down the area with a dry, clean cloth.

Unfortunately, lipstick is a very stubborn thing to remove, but Accents in Cleaning can help you remove any and all stains.

Shoe Polish

Shoe polish can make work boots and dress shoes look amazing. Whether you have a housemate who is in the military or someone who just likes polished shoes, somewhere in your house is bound to end up with a little-spilled shoe polish.

  • Scrape away as much as possible (without damaging the carpet or upholstery) with a scraper or knife.
  • Apply dry-cleaning fluid in a blotting fashion to the stain. Followed by a mixture of ammonia and dish soap applied with a clean paper towel (keeping the clean side on the stain at all times to reduce spreading). Rinse with cool water and blot with a clean, dry towel until dry.
  • Use acetone nail polish remover. That stuff will remove just about anything!
  • Mix a non-bleach laundry detergent with cold water and apply directly to the carpet and scrum.
  • Combine water and ammonia, and scrub the carpet with a clean rag. Rinse with warm water and blot or vacuum dry.

If you feel your problems are best handled by professionals, then don’t hesitate to call Accents in Cleaning. Our trained and qualified technicians know exactly what to do to get you satisfied. Stay glued for more DIY stain removal tips.

9 Great Tips to Hire a Good Carpet Cleaning Company

It can be very bad to have dirty carpets. The rooms of your home will not look nice when your carpets are dirty, ancient, or simply worn down. You need to employ a professional cleaner. You need to know how to find the best carpet cleaning professional. The following advice will be of assistance.

1. Compare the several cleaning services

Be sure and compare several cleaning services to each other prior to selecting one. Look for reviews from customers and do some research. By looking into business bureaus and other local directories, you can prevent yourself from hiring a company with a bad reputation.

2. Also, sample a variety of cleaners

Consider sampling a variety of cleaners before choosing one to treat your entire carpet. There are several different types, but not all of them are suitable for your needs. When you find a good product, stick with it until you change your carpet.

3. Get Guaranteed Quality Service

You know a carpet cleaning company is reliable when their work is guaranteed. If you cannot get a guarantee from a particular company, search for another one. If one kicks in, let the company fix it. If by the second time you’re still not satisfied, demand your money back.

4. Know when to call the professionals

Set-in stains and grease or oil stains are best left to the professionals. Pros can remove red wine, blood, or wax, unlike homes products. In fact, they can remove stains without inflicting any chemical damage to the carpet. Over time, this saves a great deal of money.

5. Vacuum your home weekly

You need to take the time to vacuum your home on a weekly basis. By going over areas frequently, you can pick up all the dirt and grime. This can prevent stains and help your carpet last much longer. This extra time is well worth it.

6. Find out how the Carpet Cleaning company works

Before you hire any company, find out what their procedure is for cleaning a carpet. If they do not vacuum the carpet first, ditch them. Your carpet will be cleaner and look much better if the company vacuums first, so if they do not continue looking.

There are a lot of ways a carpet can be cleaned, and every company may be different. For instance, many companies will clean with absorbent pads. This method involves using a tool similar to wooden floor buffers. There are absorbent pads that spin around and get up the dirt from the carpet.

7. Get Smart about company tactics

Many companies encourage their representatives to upsell you. That means they charge you a low fee initially but will keep offering you additional, more expensive products and services that other people have tried. They may offer high traffic areas, stain guard, spot treatments, and more after they begin working, which can cost a lot more.

8. Red wine stain

Although it is a tough stain, red wine can be removed by a professional carpet cleaner. You can minimize damages by blotting the stain right away. Be sure to dilute the effect of the red wine with a bit of white wine. Use some cold water and absorb the stain with a clean cloth. Before you vacuum, cover the wet part of the carpet with table salt for approximately 20 minutes.

9. Help your carpet cleaners serve you

Keep your front drive clear to ensure that the carpet cleaners have easy access to your home. This is especially important if you live in an apartment or on a busy street. The equipment these companies use to clean your carpets tend to be heavy, so you want to be sure they are as close to your house as possible.

You should have no problem finding a qualified professional with the information in this article. Just take the tips here into account, and you will discover that it is easier than you may have thought. Good carpet cleaners can make a carpet look fantastic. As a result, your home will have a wonderful appearance as well.

Carpet Care

Carpets require care, attention, and maintenance. In your failure to do so, they will do that for themselves in a way known best to them – crossing over to the other side, disrepair.

Other reasons you should care for them are as follows:

  1. You eventually have to step out of your home, and you come back with dirt and mud all over your shoes. There’s no reason why the dust, dirt, and mud won’t collect in the fibers of your carpet. Sweeping, brushing and vacuuming can only take you so far. But the real cleaning in which the dust collected in the fibers is eliminated is rarely done – washing
  2. On some rare occasions when we become a little careless wine, tea, fruit juice, dyes, paints, or other fluid get spilled over the carpet and leave very obvious sorry reminders about our little bout of carelessness. They also create a conducive condition for bacteria and other microscopic life forms to thrive. Here the services of carpet cleaners should be engaged to eliminate these stains. Their continued appearance on the carpets makes sore to the eyes
  3. We all want our carpets last for prolonged periods of time. This won’t happen if we continue to turn a blind eye to it. In order to prolong the life of your carpet, frequent vacuuming, and washing should be done
  4. Carpets are excellent for trapping pollutants. If left to settle for a long time will cause your offensive odors and ultimately lowering the quality of indoor air by some substantial degree. People can tolerate a lot of things but when it comes to offensive, tolerances grow dim. Carpet cleaning establishments such as Accents in Cleaning have top grade carpet washing equipment and materials that will leave your carpets smelling great for a short time
  5. Periodic washing of carpet will no doubt discourage build of allergens. This goes a long way in preventing health complications that may occur if they are left to stay.

Certified Best Carpet Cleaning Company Hiring Tips

Anyone who has a carpet knows just how filthy it can become. If you are concerned with how your carpets look, you will want to get them cleaned. But, what kinds of things must you know if you want to hire someone to clean your carpets? This article can help you with that.

TIP! Most people assume that businesses that clean carpets do only that. Interestingly enough, they offer other helpful services, too.

Reputation is important in the carpet cleaning business. There are many companies that are more reputable than others. Check reviews on the Internet and ask family and friends for recommendations. By doing this, you’ll locate a company that does carpet cleaning that fits your needs.

TIP! Move all of your fragile items and valuables out of the rooms you are getting cleaned. You should not risk trusting your valuables with the crew, regardless of their promise that they will be careful.

You must compare various carpet cleaners before you choose one. Look for reviews from customers and do some research. You can avoid a bad experience with a lousy company by checking with the Chamber of Commerce or Better Business Bureau first.

TIP! Using the right cleaning agents doesn’t make a company reputable. Make certain the carpet cleaner you are considering has the right certifications.

Most carpet cleaning companies offer several other services. Often they will clean your upholstery if you ask. You may even be able to find a great deal offering both services at a discount.

TIP! Ask your carpet cleaning professional for recommendations about caring for your carpets after the cleaning is done. They can give you valuable advice on the day to day processes to take care of your carpet.

Do your research so that you can feel secure in the cleaning company you choose. You should be satisfied with the service that you receive, from start to finish. A good company will always put their customer’s needs first.

TIP! Baking soda is an inexpensive, natural carpet deodorizer. Many deodorizers used by pros are a mixture of fragrance and baking soda.

Professional Carpet Cleaning

TIP! If you’re looking to find out if a carpet cleaning company is reputable, get in touch with the Better Business Bureau. In addition to company names, you can also find complaints about each company in the list.

If you need a quick touch up in between professional carpet cleaning visits, consider using white vinegar on problem areas. Although this technique usually works, your best bet is to hire a professional carpet cleaning company for removing stains from your carpeting. Test this out on a part of your rug to make sure that it is safe before use.

TIP! Speak with any company before you pay them to work for you to see what kind of things they do when cleaning carpets. You need to be sure that before any deep cleaning they are going to vacuum your carpet.

Does your home have electrical sockets on the floor? If so, it’s essential that you warn the carpet-cleaning company before they begin their cleaning. This can help prevent a serious accident. It can hurt them or their equipment, but your home could suffer the most damage.

TIP! Move any plants from parts of your home getting a carpet cleaning. Carpet cleaning products might be poisonous to your plants, so this is a good precaution.

You should be able to get a guarantee from a reputable carpet cleaner. If a company doesn’t offer any sort of guarantee, you may want to consider hiring a different one. If a guarantee kicks-in, give the cleaning company another chance to repair the work. Ask for reimbursement if your carpets still aren’t satisfactory.

TIP! When looking for professional cleaners, make sure you understand the sorts of chemicals they use. Certain firms follow green-friendly standards, and if such things matter to you, the choice of company can make a real difference.

Shampoo your carpet with some warm water and some vinegar. Doing this is a cheap, effective method of getting carpets cleaned. The professional should mix an equal amount of vinegar and warm water together. Then, they should pour the mixture over your carpet, scrubbing it with a sponge. Use a fan to dry the carpet after you have rinsed it with warm water.

TIP! You always need to blot up any spilled liquid from your carpet right away. Once you know what to look for in a carpet cleaner, you’ll be able to get your floors cleaned right away.

If you’re looking to find out if a carpet cleaning company is reputable, get in touch with the Better Business Bureau. They know the local companies and if there are complaints against it. This is the best way to find a reliable carpet cleaner.

TIP! Ask friends and family about whether they can recommend a cleaner. You are not the first person to need a carpet cleaner.

There are a lot of different methods for carpet cleaning, and companies differ on which to use. Absorbent pad cleaning is one method adopted by many. This equipment resembles that of a floor buffer. The absorbent pads spin around to catch all the dirt, grime and mold from the carpet.

TIP! When a spill happens, do not rub the area. This will force the stain deeper and it can affect a larger area.

Check the chemicals that a company is going to be using on your carpet. While certain companies are environmentally-friendly, others are not. Doing your research on their products can make you live more greener. If it seems minor, it may help to understand that it will help the planet quite a bit if everyone helped to make it a more common thing.

TIP! Don’t pick a cleaning company based solely on advertisements. Check with neighbors and friends concerning services that they have used previously.

Before hiring a company, be sure you thoroughly do your research on them. Find out if they do a background check on their workers. When strangers are your home, you need the peace of mind that they are not on drugs and will not rob you.

TIP! Be certain the carpet cleaning company you choose hires workers who are honest and reliable. Most companies do perform background checks to make sure that their workers are trustworthy, but it doesn’t hurt to make sure before you settle on a company.

Work against the grain with a vacuum to access deeply trapped particles. This causes a friction and cleans deeper. Hiring a good carpet cleaner will take the hassle out of the whole process.

TIP! If the carpet cleaning business offers a service guarantee, remember that. You need to call your carpet cleaner if you want to use additional treatments for your carpet, such as an anti-static product to make sure this treatment will not cancel the warranty.

You need to find out which services your carpet cleaner offers and how much they charge. Typically, the cleaning company will remove furniture at no extra cost. Pre-conditioning the carpet is often a free service with many companies, too. Still, it is imperative to discover if you are going to be charged for those things.

TIP! It is not easy to compile a list of specific questions. Ask them the methods they use for cleaning carpets and whether they would work on yours.

As mentioned earlier, every carpet owner understands how dirty they can become. What you might not be aware of is what to look for when hiring a carpet cleaner. This article should have given you some useful guidelines for picking a quality contractor. Keep this advice in mind to find a company who can fit your needs!

TIP! When speaking with a potential carpet professional, ask how they protect furniture. Be sure they thoroughly describe their procedures in moving furniture and other items, as well as how they protect unmovable items.

When Your Pets make your Carpet dirty and Smell

Our furry little friends (and most times, family) are adorable and awesome. But we admit sometimes that maintaining them could be a real pain. But we love them. That’s why we put up with it. But when maintaining them becomes almost unbearable – pet odor – what do we do? In this blog post, we’ll discuss how to solve your pet odor problems.

Olfactory fatigue

The major reason it’s hard for us to detect the odors our furry friends have in our home, but to a visitor, this odor stands out and if your pet is in bad health, can be a bit offensive. Olfactory fatigue is the temporary inability of the sense of smell to perceive an odor due to prolonged exposure to the odor. It happens everywhere, you’re not alone in this.

We love our pets, but we don’t always love their odors. Most issues can be resolved with regular mopping, vacuuming, and bathing our pets, but sometimes pets make mistakes and some foul odors rise to our senses.

Animals tend to mark their territory

This much we know. Sometimes the solution is additional training, but sometimes it is a medical concern. If you find your pet “marking” areas of your home, try to use positive reinforcement to encourage them to do their business in an acceptable place (like the litter box, outside, or puppy-pads). If more accidents happen, make sure to completely remove the stain and odor from the spot because if you do not, they will continue to see that as an acceptable place to relieve themselves. If proper retraining does not help, consult your vet to discuss other options.

A Layer of Paper Towels and…

The Humane Society has some suggestions for the proper cleaning of pet marking messes. For one, they recommend a layer of paper towels covered by a layer of newspaper. Once you apply pressure, the mess should start absorbing then finish by rinsing the area with water and removing as much of the water as possible. The last step is difficult without a wet-vac or professional care.

Covering the stain with Scented chemicals

Covering the stain and smell with scented cleaning chemicals is less likely to work than a deep cleaning. The pet odor-causing molecules need to be completely removed for maximum effectiveness. Basic carpet cleaning chemicals may mask the scent from you and other humans, but your pet will still be able to smell it and they will continue to mark there. To help this, pet stores sell “pet odor neutralizers” which will work much better than normal carpet cleaners.

Reapplying varnish

Unfortunately, when left untreated pet stains on wood can lead to permanent damage. The only solution at this point is reapplying varnish. Like carpet stains, they are best treated as soon as possible. Allowing Sparky’s markings on any surface may lead to damage that even professional cleaners cannot fix.

If your pet is still in potty training, or you have begun retraining them, give us a call at Accents in Cleaning. Our deep cleaning procedures can restore your floors to like-new conditions. If you don’t believe us, check out the customer review on Yelp stating that our services kept them from having to pay a re-carpeting fee on their rental apartment.
